HOLIDAY HELPERS – As seen on 3TV/Phoenix (Good Morning Arizona) – December 17, 2018 – 8:40am

Quick fixes for all those messy holiday problems.

BURNED ON FOOD IN CASSEROLE OR PAN

Just fill it with hottest tap water and drop in a new or used dryer fabric softener sheet. Let is sit for a hour or so or overnight. The mess will pour out and you will be left with just washing and rinsing the container.

CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE MICROWAVE

Put a cup of water and a tablespoon or two of lemon juice or vinegar in a small bow. Bring it to a boil and then shut off the microwave and let sit for 15 minutes. Open the door, wipe out with a damp cloth and you are done.

REMOVE RESIDUE AND STAINS FROM NON-STICK COOKWARE

Boil 2 Tablespoons of baking soda, and a cup or two (depending on pan size) of water in the pan. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so and then wash and rinse. Season the pan with a little cooking oil rubbed in with a paper towel.

CLEAN THE BROILER PAN EASILY

Sprinkle the pan, while still warm, heavily with dry laundry detergent or automatic dishwasher detergent. Cover the pan with wet paper towels and let it soak at least several hours. If the towels dry out spray with hot water or pour some on. The pan should only require light scrubbing with dish soap when done. I pick up powder automatic dishwasher detergent at the $$ Store for these type of problems.

EGGNOG ON CARPET

Clean eggnog up quickly. It’s not just the stain, but also the spoiled milk odor that will be left behind if you don’t remove it. Start by working in a bit of mild dish soap solution (1 teaspoon to 2 cups warm — not hot — water). Allow to sit, blot and rinse and blot if all the stain is removed. Should follow-up be necessary, use white vinegar mixed 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. If you detect an unpleasant odor after it has dried completely use an enzyme product for protein based stains to digest the remaining eggnog residue.
