I have had a lot of emails from people who want to start out 2020 in a healthier, earth friendly way that is good for their family and the environment. The problem is being natural can sometimes involve too much effort. Here are some really easy ways to start.

Removing hazardous chlorine bleach from your home is a great place to start.

MAKING YOUR OWN BLEACH FOR CLEANING

It is possible to make your own effective bleach to use for cleaning and disinfecting.

2 cups Hydrogen Peroxide

2 cups water

2 Tablespoons lemon juice

Combine in an opaque (dark colored), not clear, container because peroxide is broken down by light. You can re-purpose the bottle that the peroxide came in if it is large enough. Be sure to label whatever you use.

Use for cleaning sinks, showers, and toilets.

This is too strong for laundry. Use only for cleaning so you don’t remove color.

MAKE YOUR OWN BLEACH FOR LAUNDRY

This is a safe, effective all- purpose bleach for all your laundry.

Combine in an opaque or dark container not a clear one. Peroxide is broken down by light. I re-purpose a softener or detergent bottle and label it.

½ Cup Hydrogen Peroxide

2 Tablespoons lemon juice

3 – ¼ cups water

5 drops Tea Tree Oil or essential oil

Combine and use as you would regular chlorine or non-chlorine bleach

NATURAL DISINFECTING SPRAY

½ – Cup White Vinegar

½ Cup Inexpensive vodka

12 – 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil

12 – 15 Drops Lemon Essential Oil

1 ½ – Cup Water

Pour all the ingredients into a labeled 24 oz. or larger spray bottle.

Spray on all hard surfaces. Allow to remain wet on the area for 5 – 10 minutes.

Wipe with a microfiber cloth

This mixture is antibacterial and antiseptic and will keep germs from growing.

Disinfectants are not spray-and-wipe, they must sit on the surface to do their job.

If you prefer you can change up the essential oils to Basil and Rosemary

NATURAL CLEANSER

½ – Cup Baking Soda

¼ – cup Borax

30 Drops Pure Tea Tree Oil

Mix the ingredients together well to distribute the Tea Tree Oil.

Put in a covered container or a shaker container. A re-purposed grated cheese container works well as does a sugar shaker from the $$$ Store.

Use this as you would any cleanser. It will not scratch.

The Tea Tree Oil provides antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

LEMON DEGREASER

2 Cups Water

2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice or bottled lemon juice

½ Teaspoon Dr. Bonner’s Castile Soap

1 – Tablespoon Baking Soda

Pour the ingredients into a 24oz or larger labeled spray bottle

Shake

TO USE: Spray the surface and wipe with a microfiber cloth

USE THIS ON: All hard surfaces except wood. Stores up to 6 months
