LAUNDRY HACK – KEEP YOUR KIDS SOCKS and UNDERWEAR SIMPLE

Searching for matching pairs of socks in a huge pile of clothes can be frustrating and take time.

You can eliminate the hunt by buying either all-white or all-black socks for your children.

For multiple kids assign each child a color for socks and underwear.

Possibly gray for one, white, or black for the others, even bright colors

Sorting is easy now. When you remove the clothes from the dryer you simply grab the colors and separate them into the “put away” basket for each child.

Another idea is to give each child a mesh laundry bag. Label it with their name or initials. Have them toss dirty socks into the bag. On laundry day, zip and toss in the washer. You can toss it right in the dryer when you take it out of the washer.

SORT YOUR CLOTHES INTO SEPARATE BASKETS AS YOU EMPTY THE DRYERR

Does it feel like it takes you forever to sort, fold and put away all of your laundry?

This is the time to use different colored laundry baskets in your home.

I suggest you use a different color for each family member.*

As you remove the clothes from the dryer sort them into the appropriate laundry basket. It is up to you whether you just toss them in and let the basket owner fold and put away or whether you fold them and put them in the basket.

This is a great way to start teaching, even young kids, to help around the house.

DRY CLOTHES FASTER

Tossing a dry, fluffy bath towel into the dryer with your wet clothes can make them dry faster. It helps absorb and remove moisture from the clothes

JUST SAY NO TO IRONING

You can avoid using your iron altogether by hanging your clothes up right when you take them out of the dryer.

Unfortunately, that can be easier said than done.

Instead, dampen a towel and throw it in the dryer with the wrinkled clothes for 10 to 15 minutes. By putting moisture back into the clothes they will come out wrinkle free.

HAND SANITIZER – A GREAT EMERGENCY LAUNDRY SPOTTER

Permanent marker and latex paint can be removed using hand sanitizer. This works well on almost any surface, including clothing. Always test on clothes in an inconspicuous spot first. Squirt the hand sanitizer on the spot, tap it in, let sit for about an hour, then launder as usual.

Blood can also be removed with hand sanitizer. Blot the hand sanitizer on, let sit until you can see that the blood is broken down, rinse, pretreat and launder as usual.

Ink can also be removed. Squirt the sanitizer on, let soak 30 minute, add more sanitizer and rub with an old toothbrush. Retreat if needed. Once the stain is out, launder as usual.

CLOTHES FORGOTTEN IN WASHER

What’s worse than opening the washer to do laundry and finding clothes you washed days ago and forgot about. Now they smell like mildew.

The simple solution is to set your washer on “rinse only cycle” and drop in 3-4 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree is an antimicrobial antibacterial. It will remove the mildew and the smell so you can then put the clothe in the dryer and move on.

DRYER BALL REMINDER

Stop using softener sheets in the dryer, save $$$ and dry clothes faster

Make your own laundry balls out of aluminum foil. They will stop static electricity, soften clothes, save $$$ and dry clothes faster because they absorb heat.
