Fake Blood: It’s made from corn syrup and red dye, making it a particularly horrible stain if it ends up where it shouldn’t. Be careful when you’re applying it, especially when setting an open tube of the stuff down on surfaces like bathroom countertops or on wooden dressers. Rubbing alcohol will remove dye stains from fabric, as well as from hard surfaces. Acting quickly helps. Non-gel toothpaste will often work too.

Chocolate

Carefully scrape off as much of the chocolate as possible without grinding the stain deeper into the fabric. Apply stain remover and wash. Wash again if necessary with fabric- or color-safe bleach. If you have a stubborn spots, wet the spot and work in some Fels Naptha Laundry Bar Soap and then sprinkle with Borax. Work in well. Launder as usual.

On furniture Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover is a good choice. Be sure to read the directions on the can. Always test in an inconspicuous area before using.

Colored Halloween Hairspray

Many of us will not wash out the hair color when we get home, which means it will become one with your sheets and pillowcases.

To remove colored hairspray from washable fabrics, start by flushing the stain with cold running water. Then, apply a stain treatment product and launder as usual. My Miracle Stain Remover is great as is Zout Laundry Stain Remover or De-Solv-It Laundry Saver.

Having Trouble Removing Spray in Color From Your Hair? Simply add some baking soda to your shampoo and wash several times.

Rotten Pumpkin

A pumpkin sitting on a hard surface inside or outside, will most likely leave behind a moldy black stain as it decomposes. Many times you won’t notice it until it is too late. To remove this mess, dampen a microfiber cloth with warm water and a squirt of white non-gel toothpaste, then rub it on the stain in small circles until it lifts. Once the stain is gone you will probably need to polish the area. A warning: If the pumpkin has been sitting and molding for a long time, you may need to refinish the wood.

Preventing the problem is easy. Sit your pumpkin on a plate or other container to keep it from staining wood or cement surfaces.

Glitter

Glitter is so enticing and yet such an absolute wreck of a substance when it comes to removing it from your person and home. Here is a bulleted list of things you might employ to rid your life of extraneous glitter:

  • Lint rollers
  • Masking tape
  • Painter’s tape
  • Baby wipes
  • Play-Doh
  • Silly Putty
  • A handheld vacuum
  • A standard vacuum fitted with a crevice or hose attachment

Jell-O® Shots

Pineapple is the enemy of Jell-O, so if a Jell-O shot has congealed on a surface, pouring a little pineapple juice on it will help to dissolve the mess. Remaining food coloring stains can be treated with rubbing alcohol.
