Cleaning a Rusty Cast Iron Skillet

How to clean a cast iron pan that has rusted. A great way to clean a rusty cast iron skillet or pan is to use a potato.
How to clean cast iron that has rusted
How to:
- Cut a white potato in half and rub the cut side all over the pan. As it becomes soiled, cut it off so you have a clean end again
- Rub until the rust is removed
- Wash and rinse the pan in hot water and a little soap
- Dry it thoroughly
- Oil the entire inside with cooking grade oil to re-season it
Warnings & Cautions:
Make sure you dry and re-season the pan or it will rust again
Why It Works:
The acid in the potato breaks down the rust
