Removing Nail Polish

About this Tip:

This tip will help to remove small nail polish spills on carpet and other synthetic fibers

This will help to remove small nail polish spills on carpet and other synthetic fibers

How to:

  1. Pour about 3 tablespoons of water on the spot. Be sure you saturate the entire spill
  2. Add about 15 - 20 heavy squirts of hairspray over the water
  3. Cover that with 3 - 5 splashes of rubbing alcohol - don't have alcohol? Use vodka if you have it
  4. Gently agitate and blot continuously
  5. An old toothbrush can be helpful
  6. If you are not removing more color, cover the spot with a heavy pad of paper towels and stand on it to absorb the water, hair spray and alcohol
  7. Repeat if needed.

Warnings & Cautions:

DO NOT use this on a large nail polish spill. It's time to call a professional Treat ASAP. The spill needs to be fresh and still wet Do not use acetone-based nail polish remover or pure acetone on this. Acetone will melt the plastic that is in many synthetic fibers

Linda Says:

If this does not remove all of the spill and you have non-acetone nail polish remover you can use that by dripping it on and blotting continuously. Do not pour the polish remover on. Drip it from a spoon and blot and pull up on the fibers with a paper towel every time you add more polish remover.

Why It Works:

The water acts as a carrying agent for the hairspray and alcohol to breakdown and remove the polish
