Cleaning the Garbage Can
About this Tip:
How to clean the garbage can and when. Really, what is dirtier and has more germs than a garbage can? This tip will help to keep your garbage can clean.
How to clean the garbage can and when
How to:
- Each time that you take out the trash, clean the top and the inside of the lid with a disinfecting wipe. I like using wipes for this because they can be tossed. Be sure nothing has leaked into the bottom of the can.
- Once a month sprinkle some baking soda in the bottom of the can and let it sit for 30 minutes or so. Use hot water and paper towels to wash it out
- Alternately, you can use a spray cleaner, disinfectant or disinfectant wipe to clean it out. Pay special attention to any area where debris has splashed
- I like to put a double layer of paper towels in the bottom each time I change the bag. Doing that will absorb moisture and wet trash like coffee grounds.

QUEEN TIP: Use a band or a bungee cord to keep the garbage bag upright in the can. It will prevent a mess when you remove the bag.
Many people suggest storing clean garbage bags in the bottom of the can. This can be a good idea, unless the bag in use leaks, then you have a mess.
