Acid on Clothing
What you need:
- Cold Water
- Paper towels
- Ammonia
- Baking Soda
How to:
- Neutralize acid by flushing the area with cold running water as soon as possible
- Spread the garment over a pad of paper towels.
- Moisten with ammonia.
- Dab the spot several times, then flush again with cold water.
- Launder as usual.
Notes:
If you do not have ammonia on hand, apply a paste of cold water and baking soda, then flush with water. Repeat several times, then launder as usual.
Acid would be something like battery acid.
Warnings & Cautions:
Acid can permanently damage fabrics, so it must be treated immediately. Do not use undiluted ammonia on wool or silk, or on any blends containing these fibers. If you have acid on silk or wool you may dilute ammonia with equal parts of cold water and apply as directed in tip.
