JEANS – Washing them the right way

About this Tip:

How often should you wash your jeans? Best way to wash them. How should you dry clean them?

How often should you wash your jeans? Best way to wash them. How should you dry clean them?

What you need:

  • Jeans
  • Mild detergent that does not contain bleach or softener
  • Clip hangers

How to:

  1. Turn jeans inside out
  2. Group by dark or lights
  3. Launder in cold water with a cold rinse. Use the shortest cycle you can based on soiling
  4. Remove from washer as quickly as you can at the end of the cycle to eliminate wrinkles
  5. Turn right side out and hang to dry. Hang on clip-type hangers from the legs to dry. The weight of the fabric will pull out wrinkles.
  6. Avoid drying in the dryer. It causes shrinkage and creates more wear on the fibers,
  7. If you must dry them more quickly, put in the dryer for 15 or 20 minutes on lower heat and then remove and hang to complete the drying.

Linda Says:

Washing is the preferred way to clean jeans. Launder every 3 - 5 wearings unless you wear them for something that creates heavy soiling. Dry cleaning weakens Lycra and Spandex and fibers.
