CLEANING WITH CITRUS- VIDEO – As seen on 3TV/Phoenix (Good Morning Arizona) – Monday, August 13, 2018 – 8:40am (See video below)

Citrus cleaners work well, particularly on greasy dirt. Citrus cleaners you buy in the store contain other chemicals but you can make a safe natural one yourself and it is cheap, cheap, cheap!

MILD CITRUS CLEANER

This is so simple to make.

Take a quart jar and fill it with *citrus peels. Use any peel or any combination of peels. Use peels only, no fruit.

QUEEN TIP: Use a vegetable peeler to peel the fruit quickly and easily.

Pour enough water over the peels to cover them and fill the jar.

Allow this to marinate for about 4 weeks at room temperature, giving the jar an occasional shake. At the end of 4 weeks, strain out the peels (put them down the disposal for a fresh clean, and dilute in a spray bottle by using half citrus solution and half water. Use to clean more delicate surfaces like granite, marble and travertine.

Store unused portion of the citrus concentrate in the refrigerator.

* Start saving your citrus peels. Anytime someone eats an orange or grapefruit or uses a lemon, or lime save it in a plastic bag (or the quart jar you are going to use) in the refrigerator until you have enough to fill a quart jar.

CITRUS VINEGAR

This is a stronger tough-job citrus cleaner.

Make it by filling a quart jar with citrus peels – Peels only, no fruit

Pour white vinegar over them to fill the jar. You can use regular white vinegar or Cleaning Vinegar

Let this marinate for 4 weeks at room temperature and then strain out peels

Dilute the solution in a spray bottle using half citrus vinegar solution and half fresh white vinegar.

Store unused portion of the concentrate in the refrigerator.

This can be used to clean stovetops, cooktops, bathroom surfaces, mirrors and floors. It even works on the grill, oven racks, outdoor furniture etc. Use a scrubbing sponge or steel wool on surfaces that will tolerate it. Not for use on stone or marble surfaces. It’s great for tough jobs.

POWDERED CITRUS CLEANSER

Combine 1 cup baking soda

2 tsp. Cream of Tartar

1/8 cup Borax (Twenty Mule Team Borax in the laundry aisle)

1/4 cup grated citrus peel in a bowl.

Mix the ingredients well and pour the mixture into a glass jar. Repurposing a grated cheese container or sugar shaker works well.

Sprinkle the mixture onto dried spills and scum. Use any place you would use cleanser.

Use a sponge or soft brush to scrub the mixture into the mess, breaking it up. Wipe clean with a wet cloth.

HOMEMADE LEMON OIL

Wash and dry lemons

Using a vegetable peeler, cut thin slivers of the yellow skin in long ribbons.

Pack peels tightly in a jar, then pour in just enough coconut oil to cover.

Place in a sunny window for 1-2 weeks, shaking every day.

Strain peels and pour oil into a jar.

Apply a little to a soft cloth. Use it with a scrubbing sponge to clean glass shower doors. Clean, don’t rinse, instead buff with a soft cloth. I like micro fiber for buffing. Do not get this on the tub or shower floor. It will be very slippery if you do.

You can also apply lightly to a soft cloth for dusting.

FURNITURE POLISH

Combine:

1 cup of olive oil

¼ cup lemon juice in a small labeled jar.

Shake well prior to each use.

Apply a little to a soft cloth and rub on wood furniture and then buff to a shine.
